Sears Class Action

Emge & Associates is investigating claims that Sears is misleading consumers in an effort to obtain early renewal and double payment for Master Protection Agreements for home appliances such as ovens, dishwashers, microwaves, refrigerators and washing machines.  

The Scheme
Home appliances purchased from Sears often come with a two year Master Protection Agreement – or MPA.  Consumers are also able to extend their MPA's for additional one, two or three year plans.  It is alleged, however, that Sears sends notification to plan participants approximately one year prior to the expiration of their protection plan with words such as "Urgent: Your Sear Protection Agreement has expired.  Reply now to restore coverage."  Believing these representations to be true, consumers often double pay for additional coverage, even though their existing coverage is still valid.
